PRESS RELEASE -- JULY 1, 2007
BROWN & SHEEHAN AND THE MURPHY FIRM ENTER INTO SPACE SHARING ARRANGEMENT AND EXPANSION OF CORPORATE LITIGATION EFFORTS
Brown & Sheehan, LLP and The Murphy Firm jointly announced today they have officially occupied 25,000 square feet at One South Street, formerly home to the Deutsche Bank - Legg Mason corporate headquarters. The lease was brokered by David Fields of CB Ellis - Commercial Leasing. The Murphy Firm, long headquartered in a historic Madison Avenue property, will put its Madison Avenue property on the market as a result of leasing at One South Street. Brown & Sheehan was previously headquartered at Tide Point.
The two firms have entered into a space sharing arrangement so that they can draw upon each other's resources with state of the art communication and computer systems, all located in downtown Class "A" space.
Billy Murphy said, "I wanted space that shouts 'this elevator is headed for the top.' The two firms' aggressive expansion into One South Street accentuates the joint commitment to winning at every level. " Billy Murphy is legendary for practicing law the way he sees it. Recently, Murphy, along with co-counsel Michael Brown, took on his long time comrade Stephen Snyder in a case which pitted the two litigation giants in a head to head battle in Baltimore City Court. This was the first case in which the two firms shared resources and won an outstanding defense verdict for the University of Maryland Medical System.
In the past twelve months The Murphy Firm has prevailed in litigation awards and savings for corporate clients in high stakes litigation. Brown & Sheehan has prevailed in numerous product liability cases around the country tried for Daimler Chrysler Corporation and in commercial litigation in the Circuit Courts.
The Murphy Firm has a core group of fourteen (14) lawyers and Brown & Sheehan has twelve (12) lawyers. Brown & Sheehan has earned a national reputation since its founding in 1997 as a minority owned and led firm with a distinguished national practice in Commercial Litigation, Business and Corporate Law, serving corporate, financial, and real estate industry clients.
Hassan Murphy, managing partner of The Billy Murphy Firm, said, "The firm's space requirements, doubling our former location, reflect an expanding cadre of attorneys as well as the firm's growing reputation for attracting high profile corporate clients who demand creativity, commitment and excellence in every detail. Along with the firm's aggressive affiliations, One South Street symbolizes the firm's emerging national status and Billy Murphy's personal commitment to downtown Baltimore."
Michael Brown said, "The expansion into One South Street with the combined cadre of attorneys provides us with new resources and capabilities. Another option has emerged very recently for minority firms with proven capabilities and track records: Grow a large minority owned firm - one that leads rather than follows; one that has already earned the first chair rather than settling for the second chair. We strongly believe that having the two firms under one roof is a fit for Brown & Sheehan clients as well as the attorneys who make Brown Sheehan a 'go to' firm for many FORTUNE 500 companies."
The two firms will continue to operate under their separate entities but will shift their individual focus to working together on cases involving major corporate clients involved in high stakes litigation. At the same time, the two firms intend to jointly expand their growing transactional practice concentrated in the Maryland and mid-Atlantic areas.
David Sheehan, one of the two founding partners of Brown & Sheehan, said: "This move is very important for the future of this firm and shows our understanding of the need to evolve and adapt to the business of practicing law. The combination of the two firms will propel us into new opportunities and will underscore our commitment to excellence as the norm to be expected by all of our clients and demanded of all of our lawyers."
"The firm is committed to continue providing first class legal services to all of its business, institutional and government clients."
